They called him The Mathematical. He scored two of the three goals that beat Algeria in Lagos in 1980 and gave Nigeria its first continental title.
Segun Odegbami, known as The Mathematical, was a right-wing forward celebrated for his pace, control and finishing.
In the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations final in Lagos he scored twice in Nigeria's 3–0 win over Algeria, with Muda Lawal adding the third, to take the country's first continental title; he finished joint top scorer of the tournament and was runner-up for African Footballer of the Year. He captained Nigeria forty-six times and scored twenty-three goals for the national side.
