In 2016 he lifted a twenty-three-week-old foetus partly out of her mother, cut away a tumour that would have killed her, and returned her to the womb to finish growing. She was born healthy weeks later.
Oluyinka Olutoye is a Nigerian paediatric surgeon and researcher, educated in Nigeria and the United States.
In 2016 he and his team at the Texas Children's Fetal Center operated on a twenty-three-week-old foetus, temporarily bringing her out of the uterus to excise a sacrococcygeal teratoma that would otherwise have been fatal, and returning her to the womb to continue developing. The child, Lynlee Boemer, was delivered healthy by caesarean some weeks later. He was co-director of the Texas Children's Fetal Center and later chief of surgery at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Ohio.
